Chess:
The DeGolyer Chess Club is an after-school program that meets once a week to learn how to play Chess. DCC is for Kindergarten -5th Grade students. Students will learn how to set up a chess board, basic chess rules, how pieces move, and strategy. Students gain critical thinking skills as well as the ability to focus. Students also have the opportunity to play in DISD tournaments. There are two groups: a beginner level group (Friday) and a group for students with at least 1 year experience (Thursday).

DeGolyer Art Crew:
The DeGolyer Art Crew is an after-school program that meets once a week to create and build the set and props for the Spring Musical. DAC is exclusively for 3rd-5th Grade students.

Music/Modern Band:
3rd -5th Grade students will have the opportunity to learn guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals in a modern setting. We will learn music genres such as Blues, Rock, music composition among many other things.

Destination Imagination:
The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), fine arts and service learning.

Coding Club:
Coding Club is offered to 1st - 5th graders as an after-school activity once a week (days and times vary by year). In Coding Club, students learn to easily create stories, games and animations with the Scratch block coding platform. Student projects are entered into the Dallas ISD STEM EXPO coding competition showcase, usually held in January each year. Participation in the club is free and open to all experience levels.

Lone Star Challenge:
Lone Star Challenge is the elementary competition equivalent to Academic Decathlon and Academic Pentathlon. Teams of three. 6-9 students from our school are selected to represent DeGolyer in district competition.

Robotics:
This is after-school club open by invitation only–teachers nominate students that they feel will be a good fit. Groups exist for all grade levels K-5th, but not all are open for new members. The timing and frequency of meetings each year is determined by the team’s coaches and there is one competition in the spring in which the teams across DISD compete.

Student Council:
Our Student Council is a student-based civic organization designed to help promote school spirit and leadership among students. They help the students raise funds for schoolwide projects. They assist the community when they are in need of aid. The student council helps share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals.

TMSCA:
This is an after school math competition team comprised of 4th and 5th grade students. Students that demonstrate an aptitude for mental math are invited to join the team at no expense. The team currently meets every Thursday and competes in five virtual competitions throughout the school year.
